Which tailor?
Posted by fatman (1053 days ago)
Alright stupid question, but which of those 500 tailors on Sukhumvit are the best?
My sources turn me to Crown Tailors in soi 8 and Rajawongse on soi 4
Comments, experiences, advice are all appreciated!

Tried a tailor in Bangkok recently and had to go back THREE times and still they didnt get it right... good friend of mine who lived in BKK for a number of years told me (after the fact) to get all tailoring done in Hong Kong....
Live and learn... you pay more but then you get what you pay for. Back to Ascott Chang in the future

The problem is I'm not going to HK anytime soon. So I have to stick with Bangkok. Guess I'll havta try those two unless someone can come up with some help!

Gulati on the corner Suk and Soi 3 has a reasonable following but Rajawongse on Soi 4 is a better bet.

Hanuman, I actually went to Rajawongse, but they were closed? I guess they open late for the new years, so I decided to head on to Crown Tailors where'd I've just purchased 3 suits and about 8 shirts. Good price and overall good service by them. I haven't had time to go for my fittings, but will be getting my first one tomorrow. Lets see how that goes.

I just got back from Bangkok and had a wonderful experience with my tailor. I just graduated and was in need of more suits at a reasonable price for a suit-everyday job that I just started. I found out about Savile Row Fashion Clothiers on this site, and decided to check them out. I emailed Narry and Aron (father and son who run the shop) beforehand, and they were very helpful, with directions to the shop and pricing.
There are a million tailors in Bangkok, and quite a few look absolutely horrible, so be very careful. I would recommend Savile Row Fashion without any hesitation. I got two suits, 4 shirts, and a pair of shorts made there, and love all of them. In fact, I am sitting in the trousers from one of the suits now. The suits were $250 apiece, and the shirts were $30, both incredible prices.
If you go, your first visit will be a fitting and fabric selection; Aron will measure you and give you a box of pushpins to select fabrics you like. Then you pull all the fabrics out and choose what you want. Aron will be happy to guide you as far as style choices, and his instincts are traditional and generally spot-on, but if you have specific requests they are happy to accommodate you. For example, I got surgeon cuffs, cuffed pants, peak lapels, and half linings on my suits, none of which are standard, and they didn't charge me extra. I also asked for side pleats, removable collar stays, and 1/4" stitching on my shirts, which they were happy to do.
I've worn the suits and shirts several times now. They fit quite well, and I still can't believe I paid under $900 for essentially an entire week's worth of dress clothing. If you want more info or details, PM me and I'll be happy to share, but I would definitely suggest checking out Savile Row Fashion.

Have been living in Bangkok for over 10 years and could list down few tips on using them.
When in Bangkok. Keep in mind that the tailors don’t have what you have in your mind so it is best you explain to him the cut that you would like.
Your suit will be made based on the tailor’s mental picture of what you describe and what he or she believes is best suited to your body type, so clearly articulate what you want. Ask questions to ensure that your ideas match the tailor’s understanding. Don’t rush through this step. It may take a lot of discussion and some adjustments, but there’s nothing worse than paying for a suit that’s not what you had in mind.
I have been going to Excelsior in Bangkok for years and have been fully happy with them. Most of the suits bought from them over 10 years are all still in great shape.
Excelsior tailoring entails the personal attention of a cutter who measures the customer, creates and cuts a pattern, and directly supervises the making and fitting of the garment. They also use English finest fabrics and trimmings.
Some of the workmanship that I made a note of are
• Chest canvas is comprised of tightly woven horses hair covered with soft cotton for a smooth individualized fit.
• Skillfully hand-sewn sleeve open buttonholes blend smoothly into the fabric.
• Armholes are shaped by hand to ensure longer wear and to conform to the natural shape of the body. Excelsiors trademark is his skill in aligning the fabric perfectly through the armhole so it appears to be a continuous flow of fabric with no interruptions in the lines.
• Shoulder pads are individually cut and hand sewn.
• Hand-sewn pockets softly mold to the body without stiffness, double stitched for reinforcement.
• Full lining of 100% silk, cotton or silk/cotton mix is hand basted into place prior to sewing to assure conformity with body movements. It never sags even after wear and cleaning.
If you are in Bangkok keep them in mind for good tailoring rather than the touts shops
Buy at least two single-breasted, two-piece suits. The two-button look is a longtime business standard, but the three-button look has been making several comebacks.
I had Separate dress pants it gave me more potential combinations with different colored dress shirts, ties and blazers. Dark gray, black or brown dress pants and a pair of khakis. For each suit always have an extra pant so it keeps on the longevity.
Around 180 Euros for a wool suit at a high quality.
Located amidst the crowded street of Patpong at 115/1 The Siamheritage Suriwong
Opposite The Tawana Hotel Near the Montien hotel and Patpong Road
Have a good fit.

I read an earlier review about this place, Savilerow Fashion and said what the heck as I had limited time. It was well worth it - I gave this place 5 stars because they deserve it. The service was top class. I will be surely buying more suits from them.Great service, very affordable price. I would recommend you to Savilerow Fashion with a happy heart.

been a while since i got back on this forum, but wanted to add my two cents. The clothes I had made at Crown the first time (yes, I have been back a couple of times now) are still great and continue to be used. So therefore, I continue my recommendation and still insist that I'm very happy with all the clothes I had made at Crown Tailors.

Go to Excelsior in Bangkok. He makes great suits and he is highly recommended by the bankers ,ship brokers and buisnessman. He is situated at the financial buisness district of silom and does for for most of the expat community. You can pick up a beautifull Italian Cashmere and wool suit tailor made for Baht 8000. Don`t go with the TUK TUKS and Taxi or Hotel recommended shops for clothes as this are tourist trap and they are not as professional as the tailors in the financial district area. Go to Excelsior website for his information www.excelsuits.com

I didn’t know any tailors in the area so I gave a chance to Tailor Pro and I couldn’t be happier. The gentleman that I dealt with couldn’t have been nicer, more patient and more professional with me if I had asked. I gave them a big job and they came though marvelously. I had a suit jacket that was way too big and needed some serious surgery; tucking, pulling and clipping all had to be done. They’re a small outfit with, what I thought, very reasonable prices. Try them out.Address Inside somerset lake point, sukhumvit soi 16
