I'm hoping that I can get some valuable information from you all. I would like to move to Bangkok from London in about 4-6 months. I need to find a flat and a job. My work is in IT and I am a Service Delivery Manger/Service Desk Manager. Would anyone have any advice on how agencies could help me. Maybe sites to look at. I have been on the internet and done some of my own research and signed up to agencies but I guess unless I am in Bangkok, it will be pretty hard for me to get a job.
Could you also recommend places and areas to live. I am 30 years old - female, who will be living with my boyfriend. We are looking for a modest 1-2 bedroom place. I know there are also lots of hidden costs so if someone could give me some advice on bills etc that would be great.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanking you in advance.
Finding work will be a challenge since Thailand has its own local IT people who will work for a quarter of what a Westerner would ask. There is also the question of work visas and permits which are not easy to come by. Yur best bet is probably to try and find companies that require your services and set up your own company. You'll need ThB 2,million capital for that and, legally, you will have to employ four Thai nationals.
As for accommodation it pays to live close to your work, or at least close to a skytrain station. Traffic here is horrendous. There are plenty of good cheap apartments here so figure out where you are going to work and then find the accommodation. The main thing to look for is good security and a secure entry system.
