My girlfriend and I are both relocating to Bangkok as of the end of this month. We will be arriving on January 27th and ideally would like to have a place sorted by February 1st. We are looking to spend around 6,000-10,000BHT/month and would like to be somewhat centrally located.
The question is, how do we go about finding a place? Do we just show up at these places that are advertised on sites like MrRoomFinder? Do we call? Is 3 or 4 days a reasonable amount of time to find a place?
Also, where would be a decent place to call home for the next year or so? The only Bangkok I know and have seen is Khao Sahn and we obviously don't want to live there.
Hey Scott, I can't give you any advice, but I'm planning on moving to Bangkok also with my boyfriend, who at the moment is swanning around the world. Anyhow, I'm thinking of moving there in about 5-6 months. I need to find a job - my area of expertise is IT and also a flat. If you do get some good advice, would you mind forwarding it on to me please. I can tell you that I have stayed many times around the Sukumvit area which is very expaty and lots of fun.
Good luck with your move and if possible, please keep in touch.

Your best bet is to check into a reasonable hotel here for two or three nights and wander about the area yo uwish to live. There are so many empty apartments that you will have no trouble finding somewhere. If you can find a Thai to help you it could work out cheaper since landlords will sometimes inflate prices for Farangs
I can recommend a very clean secure apartment building that is just a short walk from On Nut BTS. Has its own laundry, restaurant and keycard entry system with 24 hour security. ThB 8,000 per month furnished. If you're still interested post on here again and I'll give details.
Thorm - Thanks, that would be much appreciated. We're going to check out some places around Thong Lo today. Please give me some more details about the place you're referring to in On Nut in case this doesn't work out. Cheers!
