Bar Blues Dining?
Posted by JPee pee (1569 days ago)
Hi! A bunch of gals will be in Bangkok Thurs. night (From Hongkers)and we want to hear some good music, maybe blues or funky jazz or dance to salsa??? A good bit of Thai food too nearby...No pick -up joints please..... any recommendations? Saves us having a bad sleazy experience during our short stay in the big B.
Ta Muchly! I will return the favour if you come to Hong Kong!

Ad Markers (near nana BTS) plays good live classic rock type music. The crowd is young, and people will stand up and dance. They also serve food. I do not recommend walking at night (as females) on sukuhmvit road in the nana area at night. It does not look very nice.
Salsa! The Rembrandt (sp?) hotel has a mexican restaurant called "Senior Picos". On certain nights they have a live salsa band. However, you need a date if you plan to dance.
La Rueda is the well known salsa club in Bangkok (not sure why), and is on the same soi as the Rembrandt. It is tiny, good music, but I am not sure of available dance partners.
I think the Sheraton might play some jazz at night. Look on the website for them.
For thai food, cabbages and condoms is near by.

You might want to go to tawandang for one night. It should be a visitors must. You need reservations to sit near the stage. The food is good, crowd friendly and you dance to thai pop songs and western ones also, and that is fun. They put on a show that begins at 8 pm and it is very nice!

Boricua, No offence but Tawandang looked a bit big beer hall-y for us. We would like small, wine bar type, or funky c*cktail ;ounge.. but no pick -up joints please, we have lovley husbands already. Any more tips appreciated.

No offence taken they do serve a lot of beer, but it is far from rowdy, and people are very well mannered. I do not go out that often so the only other places I know of are bars within restaurants, with no live music. The larger name brand hotels may have something to offer. I can't tell you were to go, but I can tell you were not to go. Soi cowboy, patpong, and the nana area to name a few.

i think RCA, Thonglor or with Restaurants Nawamin is the better. Thonglor is very trendy nowadays.
Dont go to hotels - pickups all together.
Tawandang is ok - but really more for a group going out.
Jazz Saxophone is good, almost like AdMaker. Albeit the food is not good in both places. But both not trendy, more friends night out kind of thing.
Qbar, Beds on suk 11 are still noteworthy.
